The NFL regular season hasn’t even kicked off yet—we’re only through Week 2 of preseason—but fantasy football managers are already buzzing. And if you’ve followed this game long enough, you know that preseason is when overreactions are born. Some turn into draft-winning calls; others fade into summer mirages.

This week, three storylines stood out above the rest. There is a sizzling new QB–TE connection in Chicago. There is also a depth chart shakeup in Washington. Additionally, the rookie RB in Las Vegas looked…um…well REALLY GOOD.

Caleb Williams + Colston Loveland = THEE Top QB–TE Stack of 2025

It’s only preseason, but Caleb Williams looks like he’s taken the Year 2 leap Chicago desperately needed. The biggest beneficiary? Rookie tight end Colston Loveland, who has already carved out a role as a prominent part of this passing attack.

Loveland’s size, hands, and reliability have made him a natural target when plays break down, and Williams’ trust in him is obvious. For fantasy, that’s exactly what you want: a young QB tethered to a tight end he won’t stop throwing to.

Overreaction: Forget the established veterans. By the time the dust settles on 2025, the Williams–Loveland duo could be the best QB–TE stack at years-end in fantasy football.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt: Washington’s Next RB1?

The Commanders may have tipped their hand this week by putting Brian Robinson Jr. on the trade block. That opens the door wide for rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt, and he’s already looking like more than just a backup. Sure Austin Ekeler is still there but he’s no longer a 3-down RB guy at this stage of his career.

Croskey-Merritt brings legit speed (4.45) and natural vision to an offense in transition. The backfield pecking order suddenly feels wide open, and the rookie is making the most of it.

Overreaction: Don’t call it a committee—by October, Croskey-Merritt could be Washington’s RB1 and one of the best late-round fantasy investments of 2025.

Ashton Jeanty: Proceed With Caution

Las Vegas rookie Ashton Jeanty lit up Week 2 of the preseason, running with power, speed, and highlight-reel juice. Fantasy managers saw the performance and immediately fired up the HYPE alarms.

But here’s the caution flag: the Raiders’ offensive line still has a lot to prove. As good as Jeanty looked, sustaining that kind of production behind an inconsistent unit is easier said than done. His talent is real, but his weekly fantasy ceiling will be tied directly to what happens in the trenches.

Overreaction: Jeanty could be the spark plug this Raiders backfield has lacked—but until the offensive line proves it can consistently create lanes, i’m a little bit worried.

Final Word

It’s only preseason, and yes, defenses are still vanilla and rotations aren’t locked. But the signals are there:

  • Caleb Williams and Colston Loveland are flashing early signs of fantasy stardom.
  • Jacory Croskey-Merritt is climbing toward a potential RB1 role in Washington.
  • Ashton Jeanty is a tantalizing talent—but one we should approach with measured expectations.

Overreaction Monday is all about declaring the outrageous early. And if even one of these storylines sticks? Your league-mates will wish they’d overreacted too.
